Product Description
Type Vintage combination fountain pen and mechanical pencil, uncommon model.
Product Name Wahl Pen, the nib is marked "Wahl 4."
Manufacturer and Year Wahl, USA -- late 1920s.
Length 5-1/2" long. This may have been the largest size Wahl Pen.
Filling System Lever filler. We have installed a new sac and tested it and it's working well. The pencil side takes 1.1mm leads, but only very short lengths. It extends by twisting the business end, and it's very finicky. The mechanism is fairly stiff but we managed to get it working.
Color Marbled burgundy and black. Gold-filled trim.
Nib MEDIUM 14k Wahl Eversharp Signature nib. Nice flexibility, giving line variation from medium to double-broad without too much pressure. See our writing sample in the photos.
Condition Excellent condition. The cap and barrel both have light scratching all over. The cap has light scratching and lots of little marks, like smoothed out tooth marks. The cap bands have scratching, and some brassing along the edges. There are marks on the barrel from the cap lip. The barrel has scratching and some small marks. The lever bar has scratching and some brassing along the sides. Turning to the pencil end, the nose cone has scratching, and brassing around the tip. The lead doesn't always stay in securely, so it's probably a good idea to carry spares if you want to use this part. The imprints are smoothed down but still somewhat readable.
