Product Description
Type Rarely if ever seen safety pen in excellent restored working condition
Product Name Unknown. Wahl did not market a safety pen, but a few of these have been known to exist.
Manufacturer and Year Wahl Eversharp, France (?) - 1920s. We think it might have been made in France due the 18k nib.
Length 4-5/8" capped
Filling System Safety filler. Restored here at PSP with a new seal and guaranteed for a year from the date of purchase. As we had read, it was remarkably similar to a Waterman safety pen, and there has been supposition that these pens were made with Waterman parts. We will send instructions on how to use a safety pen.
Color Black hard rubber, chased with a Greek Key pattern. The surface is largely smooth, but the pattern remains visible. Three thin gold bands on the cap, one at the top and two at the bottom. The pen also has an accommodation clip, which is silver colroed wtih a copper filigree inset portion.
Nib FLEXIBLE FINE 18k Wahl Eversharp #2 nib is very smooth. It has good tipping material and writes with really nice line variation. It's got a funny raised oval near the "2" on the nib, possibly used to seat the nib properly on the feed, but that's just a guess. See our writing sample below.
Condition Excellent + condition. The nib has the raised oval on the surface, mentioned above, but it doesn't interfere with the writing performance of the pen. There is some fading on the body. There are no cracks or chips. There is an imprint at the top of the cap, mostly covered by the clip. The ball end of the accomodation clip is brassed. The trim ring at the top of the cap is mostly brassed, and the rings at the bottom have brassing on the bottom edge and some small spots of plating wear. There are capping and posting marks but no scratches. No personalization. The nib extends and retracts as it should.
These Wahl safety pens are very rarely seen in the wild!
