Product Description
Type Vintage eyedropper filling fountain pen from near the turn of the century, working well.
Product Name Model 14 as stamped on the bottom of the barrel. (We'd expect to see this pen with a three or four digit imprint, but pens can be found with only two digit codes.)
Manufacturer and Year Waterman, made in USA -- Circa 1917, that is when this number system was adopted.
Length 5-3/16 inches.
Filling System Eyedropper filler. We've cleaned and tested the pen and it's working very well.
Color Black chased hard rubber with two ornate gold filled barrel bands. It has a slip cap and what looks like a steel clip, so the cap might be a replacement.
Nib FLEXIBLE FINE Waterman's fully flexible Waterman's Ideal New York gold nib is smooth. It spreads nicely for strong line variation with minimal pressure. Please see the writing sample below.
Condition Very nice. The cap has discolored significantly to a nice chocolate brown. The barrel is less discolored and therefore the pen doesn't thoroughly match. The barrel has several scratches between the two bands. The bands on the barrel are in excellent condition with only small dots of brassing on the high relief areas.. The section and upper barrel have teeth or tool marks and cap marks. The imprint is easily read though weak. No cracks, dents, or chips. The pen writes very well and looks good in hand.
