Nib FLEXIBLE FINE gold nib marked Waterman's deal New York 5. It's in nice condition, smooth with good tipping material. It's just a little less than what we would call full flex, with easy line variation from fine to a small broad line, and with a little pressure produces a nice thick broad, or even double broad line. See writing sample below. The tipping material on the right tine is a little larger than the gold material to which it is attached, so you see a bit of a step down on the top. This is not something that touches the paper or affects flexing. We don't think the nib was re-tipped.
Condition Superior condition, near mint. It's a little lightened in color from exposure to sunlight, which you can certainly see in the difference between the barrel where it is covered by the cap and where it's not. No cracks or chips, just a few minor scratches. There are some scratches on the surface of the nib, as can be seen in the photos. The trim is a little worn, with spots of brassing on the lever, and where brassing is just starting on the edges of the wide cap band. The chased pattern on the barrel has been a bit worn down by handwear, but the the imprints are excellent on the trim and the barrel. It's a nice looking pen and it's working amazingly.
