Product Description
Type Fountain Pen and pencil set
Product Name Model 452 (4 means full sterling overlay, 5 means lever filler, 2 represents the nib size)
Manufacturer and Year Waterman, USA -- 1930s.
Length The fountain pen is 5-3/8" and the pencil is 5-7/16"
Filling System The fountain pen is a lever filler that has been restored at PSP with a new sac. The pencil takes "thick" or 1.1mm leads that extend and retract via a twist mechanism. The leads extend but don't retract. The top of the pencil can be removed to access an eraser and beneath the eraser are stored leads.
Color Sterling silver filigree over black hard rubber. The sterling is a basketweave pattern that looks almost floral. The section is black without an overlay.
Nib FULLY FLEXIBLE FINE Waterman's Ideal nib. It gets strong line variation and the tines spread easily. We consider this "full flex" based on our own standards, just short of a "wet noodle." Please see the writing sample below.
Condition Excellent condition. The sterling is nice and shiny on both but the hard rubber inside the filigree parts are discolored and slightly faded. The cones, section, and end of the pen barrel are the original black. The top of the pencil is peppered with dents. There are a few small dents on the pen. The imprint towards the end of the pen barrel is partially faded but the imprint at the very end of the pen is legible. The pencil mechanism is a bit stiff but both writing instruments work well. They both have been personalized with the hand-cut letters, "TBP," though the initials are much more worn on the fountain pen. The example shot of the initials is from the fountain pen and not the pencil.
