Product Description
Type Vintage pen which works beautifully and has a flexible nib. Part of a set with pencil.
Product Name Model 52 1/2 (marked on the end of the pen barrel)
Manufacturer and Year Waterman, Canada -- 1920s
Length 5-5/16" (pen), 5-3/16" (pencil)
Filling System The pencil takes 1.1mm refills and works via the twist mechanism. It has four slits in the cone and doesn't retract the leads anymore. There's a chance that a fresh lead could be better gripped by the mechanism. As is, the leads twist out and must be pushed back in. The pen is a lever filler. The sac has been replaced and it's working well.
Color Red ripple hard rubber with gold plated trim. The feed on the fountain pen is also red ripple so it is probably original.
Nib The nib reads "Waterman Ideal Canada" and has almost full flex. Line variation from medium-fine to double broad. See the writing sample below.
Condition Superior condition. The red ripple is vibrant and has high contrast. The imprints are clear and there are no scratches. Both have some brassing on the sides of the clip ball and the edges of the cap band. The fountain pen clip has some other light spots of brassing on the cap band. (The red mark on the ball of the fountain pen clip is brassing that reflects more than the gold.) Only at particular angles can the brassing be seen. No cracks or chips.
