Product Description
Type Vintage lever filling fountain pen.
Product Name Model 55 (this is a good sized pen, verging on the oversized when compared with the standard sized pens of the day).
Manufacturer and Year Waterman, made in USA -- circa 1925.
Length 5-9/16"
Filling System Lever filler. We've restored it with a new sac and it's working very well.
Color Faded black chased hard rubber (BCHR) cap and barrel with smooth hard rubber feed and section. It has nickel plated trim that has held up well.
Nib Waterman's Ideal "Ballpoint" nib. These uncommon nibs had a rounded ball tip and a bit of a "Waverly" upturn, and were intended to be very forgiving for left-handed writers. It's sort of between flexible and semi-flex, with a slightly elongated tip which gives you slightly wider horizontal lines. Nice amount of tipping material. On the down-stroke it goes from fine to broad with little pressure. Please see the writing sample below.
Condition Very nice condition with no cracks, chips, dents, or dings. The black color is very faded (to a taupe-like color) where it is exposed to light. The chasing pattern can still be seen on the cap and barrel but it is very worn and so the pen is smooth to the touch. There are very few scratches -- just a couple of bite marks on the end of the barrel and some marks caused by the cap lip. There is some microscratching on the cap. There is a little bit of plating wear and dots of pitting on the lever and the cap band. The clip looks good. The imprint on the barrel is barely visible. The "55" mark on the bottom flat end of the barrel is clear. The Waterman imprint on the clip is clear.
