Product Description
Type Vintage fountain pen
Product Name Technically this might be considered a model 552, since it is based on the 52 pen, but the first "5" would have required a full solid gold overlay and this overlay covers everthing but the lower end of the barrel. This is one of the so-called "continental overlays" where a Canadian made hard rubber 52 pen got an overlay treatment in Europe. This has what looks like a UK London hallmark, but it's a little hard to read. The imprint on the end of the barrel is 52, and the imprint toward the end of the barrel indicates it was made in Canada.
Manufacturer and Year Waterman UK and Canada - circa 1920s.
Length 5-3/8"
Filling System Lever filler (We've replaced the bladder and it's working very well.)
Color 9k solid gold overlay. Barleycorn pattern. The section and barrel end are black hard rubber.
Nib FLEXIBLE FINE. The nib is marked Waterman's Ideal England. The nib is mildly flexible and writes from fine to a broad. Good tipping material. Please refer to this pen's writing sample below.
Condition Superior condition. This is a very shiny, glowing pen with a great appearance. No cracks, chips or dents. The section is a good, dark black hard rubber with minor fading. Light wear only. The top piece of the cap has a few light marks and scratches. The lever is excellent with no pitting or brassing (it might also be solid gold, it doesn't seem to be marked). The clip is excellent with only a few light marks. The imprints and hallmarks are clear.
