Product Name Model 7 (marked on the end of the pen barrel) - Colorband series
Manufacturer and Year Waterman - circa 1920s. This is one of the first generation Colorbands, as the colored band is solid and does not have white outlines of later models.
Length 5-9/16"
Filling System Lever filler, restored with a new sac.
Color Red ripple hard rubber with gold plated trim.
Nib The nib is marked Yellow Watermans Ideal. It is fully flexible (though not a wet noodle) with a good ink flow and excellent smoothness ... and also really good tipping material. The line varies from medum-fine to broad. See writing sample below.
Since this pen has a yellow colorband, it is correct that it should have a Yellow nib. These nibs were described by Waterman as "Rounded - A different pen point. The tip is a ball shape. Makes a heavy characteristic line without pressure. Suits left-handed writers." By modern definition, "heavy" is really not much more than a wet medium, and you do get very nice line variation. This is a super smooth nib, suitable for all kinds of writing. We would not say it is better suited for either dominant hand.
Condition Superior condition. No cracks or chips. The lever has some visible brassing, but the clip and cap band both look excellent with only small traces of brassing. The color is fairly strong, with just a bit of fading evident when uncapped. The imprints are easy to read. The lever box and lever are in excellent condition. the color band has some slight crackling, but it's not excessive. This is really a stunning pen that will be a delight to write with.
