Product Description
Type Vintage desk fountain pen with its base.
Product Name Unknown (because it's a desk pen there is no marking on the end of the barrel to indicate a model). The Mahogany color is found on Waterman 92s and 94s, so we can date it to the late 1930s. The pen and the base came to us in separate purchases, and we matched them up without complete confidence that this is the way Waterman shipped the pen. It could be that the base was intended for the Patrician series, as it also resembles the "onyz" color from that series.
Manufacturer and Year Waterman, Made in USA - circa 1930s
Length The pen is 7-7/8" from the end of its barrel to the tip of its nib. The base is rectangular, 3-7/8" by 5-5/16".
Filling System Lever filler. We replaced the bladder and it's working very well.
Color Mahogany, reddish brown marbled finish with white veins and gold plated trim, a black end piece and section, and a black feed with an elegant orange stripe on it. Red onyx base.
Nib SEMI-FLEX MEDIUM Waterman's Ideal #2 nib. It's in nice condition, smooth, with nice tipping material remaining, though some of it looks worn off from the top. It has a nice little bit of line variation from a finer medium to broad with a little pressure. There's some light scratching on the top of the nib but this does not affect its writing.
Condition Excellent condition except for two small divots on the barrel where part of the plastic has been shaved off and a single scratch on the lower barrel. There are some light scratches on the end piece, but most of the pen shows only handwear. The section shows light discoloration where it was not protected by the base's flute. Hardly any real plating wear, no cracks or chips, ding or dents. The imprint on the barrel is quite clear and readable.
The base shows a little wear on its gold plated highlights and a little discoloration on the black hard rubber flute. No chips, cracks, or dents, and the original Waterman's sticker is still on the bottom.
