Product Description
Type Vintage lever filling fountain pen.
Product Name Commando (it's marked on the barrel). This model was one step down in size from the standard Hundred Year Pen, and otherwise quite similar to the later Hundred Year Pens.
Manufacturer and Year Waterman, made in USA -- early 1940's.
Length 5-1/8".
Filling System Lever filler. We've restored it with a new sac and it's working very well. We guarantee the filling system for a year from the date of purchase.
Color Brown or Burgundy with gold plated trim and two thin cap bands. The brown looks a lot like burgundy in bright lighting. In the photos (and in hand with so-so lighting) they look like a very dark black-brown but natural lighting reveals the red.
Nib FLEXIBLE MEDIUM Waterman's Ideal 14k nib is quite large. Good line variation from a fine-medium to broad. It's smooth with nice tipping material. See writing sample.
Condition Excellent + condition. The cap has light to moderate scratching. The clip has plating wear along the sides, and the rivet has brassing (which is something we always see, and which leads us to think those were not ever gold plated). The cap bands have scratches, and plating wear on the edges. The barrel has light to moderate scratching, and marks from the cap lip. The lever has some plating wear, but operates smoothly. The imprint is nice and clear. No cracks or chips, dings or dents, or personalization.
