Product Description
Type Vintage fountain pen set.
Product Name Patrician, top of the line model for Waterman pens.
Manufacturer and Year Waterman, USA -- 1930s, the model came out in 1929 and Nacre is a launch color.
Length Both fountain pen and pencil measure 5-7/16".
Filling System The fountain pen is a lever filler that has been restored with a new sac. The pencil takes "thick" or 1.1mm leads. The lead extends and retracts via a twist mechanism and is working well. An eraser can be attached to the metal tube beneath the cap. There is an eraser installed right now but it is unusable due to age.
Color The "Nacre" color is comprised of ivory and black celluloid. We usually call this pattern, "black and pearl." There are black accent pieces, including the gripping section for both pen and pencil, that are made of hard rubber instead of celluloid. They have chrome plated trim including a cut out patterned band. The cap bands are 1/4" wide.
Nib FINE FLEXIBLE Waterman's Ideal Patrician nib. It is almost narrow enough to be an extra fine and has very nice hairlines. It is not an overly flexible nib but it does have good line variation. It is a #8 size nib and very large. Please see the writing sample below. There is a hairline crack at the base of the nib which only extends as far as the "S" in USA. It looks more like a faint scratch than anything. It will not affect writing.
Condition Excellent + condition. There is the aforementioned nib hairline crack. The ivory/pearl parts of the pen look great. There is some ambering near the section of the fountain pen and at the top of its cap with a general yellowing to the pencil but neither pieces are orange. The bands and clips look almost perfect but there is plating wear on the Waterman emblem at the end of the fountain pen and on the lever. The hard rubber parts are black on the fountain pen but slightly browned on the pencil. The imprints are legible on both pieces.
