Product Description
Type Vintage fountain pen set.
Product Name Patrician, top of the line model for Waterman pens.
Manufacturer and Year Waterman, USA -- 1930s, the model came out in 1929 and Onyx is a launch color. It is now acknowledged as one of the great classics of the golden era of fountain pens.
Length Fountain pen: 5-7/16"; Mechanical Pencil: 5-3/8"
Filling System The fountain pen is a lever filler that has been restored with a new sac. The pencil takes "thick" or 1.1mm leads. The lead extends and retracts via a twist mechanism and is working well. An eraser can be attached to the metal tube beneath the cap. There is an eraser installed right now but it is unusable due to age.
Color The "Onyx" color is comprised of ivory celluloid with red veins (the "ivory" has mellowed to a gold color and the "red" looks more like burgundy). Red section, feed, cap lip and ends. Gold plated trim. They have gold plated trim including a pierced lattice patterned band. The cap band on the fountain pen is 1/8" wide.
Nib FINE FLEXIBLE Waterman's Ideal Patrician nib. The nib is very large. It is almost narrow enough to be an extra fine and has very nice hairlines. Please see the writing sample below.
Condition Excellent + condition with no cracks, chips, dents, or dings. Excellent color, better than we usually see. This is a sought after vintage set that has very beautiful coloration. The fountain pen: The cap and barrel have light to moderate scratching. The barrel has horizontal capping lines and there is some bubbling around the edge of the lever. The clip and trim are excellent. The mechanical pencil: The barrel has light scratching. The "red" end piece has bite marks. The clip has a tad of plating wear and some scratching toward the end. The imprints on both pieces are clear.
