Product Description
Type Vintage lever filling fountain pen.
Product Name Thorobred. (it's stamped on the end of the barrel).
Manufacturer and Year Waterman, made in USA -- circa late 1930s.
Length 5".
Filling System Lever filler. We've replaced the sac and it's working very well.
Color Lovely shades of grey in a marbled pattern that is vaguely comprised of large cubist blocks, with thin veins of red. The trim is chrome plated, and the pen has a single thin cap band.
Nib FLEXIBLE FINE 14k nib marked "Waterman's Ideal." It's smooth with nice tipping material. Not quite what we would call full flex, but certainly more than semi, with easy flex from fine to a broad with very little pressure. See our writing sample below.
Condition Excellent condition except for some tiny expansion cracks on the top of the cap which do not extend beyond the top surface of the cap. No chips, dings, dents, or personalization. There's some very light wear on the cap and barrel but the pen still has a smooth clean look to it. The trim is especially nice. There are just a few small spots of light brassing on the clip, the lever, and a little on the edges of the thin cap band. Both imprints on the barrel are clear and readable. It's fully restored and working well.
