Product Description
Type Vintage lever filling fountain pen and mechanical pencil set.
Product Name Webster was a second tier maker who sold their pens in the Sears catalog and stores.
Manufacturer and Year Webster, Canada – circa 1930s or 1940s.
Length The fountain pen is 3-7/8" long excluding the ringtop hardware, and the pencil is just a tiny bit shorter at 3-13/16".
Filling System Lever filler. We've restored it with a new sac and it's working well. The pencil takes 1.1mm leads and works well. (You need to hold and turn the barrel while holding the nose cone in order to extend and retract the leads.)
Color Light Green material, with white cap and barrel end finials. Gold plated trim, and a 1/8" wide cap band.
Nib MEDIUM Warranted 14k gold flexible nib. The tip has been worn to a left-foot oblique shape and is semi-flexible. See writing sample.
Condition Very nice condition with no chips, dents, or dings. This is a nice little set in a lovely material. Fountain pen: The cap and barrel have light scratching. The cap threads have a crack in them (there's a close-up of this area in the photos). We believe that the crack is stable, but if the sac ever needs replacing, an expert should be consulted. There is slight discoloration visible on the barrel where it's covered by the cap. The lever bar and cap band both have brassing and plating wear. The ringtop hardware is firmly attached. The pencil is in similar condition - light handwear and scratching on the barrel. The nose cone has brassing and scratching. The end piece is marked "14k gold filled" and has spots of brassing and dots of pitting. The box is covered in a red leather-look material, which is in nice condition. The inner velvet lining looks really good, and there are Webster stickers on both the outside of the box as well as on the inside of the lid.
